Great Southern Hotel Sydney. Reviewed: January 2009. #5492

We needed to stay near the railway with access to the airport and this hotel was right for us. Also we were able to have dinner & a drink with friends without having to go out at night. Yes we will stay there again.

Much better than anticipated... Excellent.

After reading the complaints of noisy George Street, I was surprised by the absence of any external noise. Silence , pure bliss. Airport Connect bus to and from the front door. Walking distance to Darling Harbour. 200 mtrs to monorail. China town and market city and paddy's market across the road. Possibly the most affordable accommodation in the CBD. Restaurants to die for. This is one place I will be returning to on my next visit.

A fairly subjective thing to comment on , but the cruise on Sydney harbour, the appeal of Darling Harbour day and night, Circular quay, Buskers , Sydney Aquarium, the general appeal and vibe of the place has made it a must visit again.

Great breakfast each morning. Clean and tidy rooms. Central to where we needed to go. One thing we would suggest is that it would be good to have a file in each room showing places of interest.

Stayed in Sydney. Very busy place. Nice to see the Harbour Bridge, Opera House & in & around Circular Quay. Plenty of trains, but also did lots of walking.

This hotel is cockroach infested.

This hotel had cockroaches running around in our room. We rang the front desk to tell them about it 2 minutes after walking into the room. They sent someone up with bug spray. If anyone has an asthmatic mother like I do you will know that's a huge no no. The guy did not seem at all concerned like it was an every day occurence. So every time we came back to the room we were killing roaches (usually with a shoe).

We also ended up with some lovely red bites which we can only assume are from bugs in the room as we never left the city. My advice. Don't stay here. Find another hotel unless you don't mind roaches.

Sydney is a great city with lots to see and do. I have visited roughly six times and have always come across new things to see and do.

Not really what you expect on a Rydges hotel

The lobby is terrible, you barely see the people attending the desk and there is not even enough space to wait for the elevator.

We booked a family room that on the hotel description said it was spacious, and we almost couldn't walk in there. There were mosquitoes in the room and some other nasties in the roll-away bed that bite us.

A/C was perfect and the double glaze window isolate all the noise from the street, which was great.

Excellent service and accommodation.

This is our fifth trip to Sydney in as many years for NYE and Hyde Park Inn is by far the best place we have stayed at. Friendly faces at the front desk, fresh towels daily, breakfast daily and even a paper. We will be back for sure. Thankyou.

Sydney for NYE would have to be the best place in the world. There is such a buzz and plently to do - rides on the ferry to Manly, Rose Bay, Watsons Bay, Taronga Zoo - plenty of walks to do also around the botanical gardens. We had a wonderful night out at Watersedge for NYE, great food, great music and great views of the fireworks.

Excellent value in heart of Sydney!

Great budget accommodation with excellent service. Room was very clean with all the necessities -- tea making facilities, internet, TV, comfy bed, air conditioning. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend especially to those who perhaps are going to a show close by and they don't want to travel back home. Will definitely stay there again next time I'm looking for a night's accommodation in the heart of Sydney.

As this place is centrally located, you can go anywhere in the Sydney area by bus or train from here. A lot can be seen within walking distance too. I would say a wonderful place for the international tourist searching for budget accommodation in a place where there's lots happening -- Sydney Harbour Bridge, Botanical Gardens, Opera house, ferry ride to Manly or Taronga Park Zoo, Sydney Entertainment Centre, Darling Harbour museums, heaps of great shops, restaurants, pubs.

You name it, it's there.
